Some of the best food and service I’ve ever had. Tucked away on a street with incredible views of Oaxaca city, this is definitely one of my favorite dining experiences in Oaxaca. Staff was knowledgeable and kind. I ordered the braised pork rib on sweet potatoes. The meat was falling off the bone! Also ordered papas bravas. This is a must if you are traveling to the city. They also have a cool jazz club upstairs and a night of great music was a bonus after dinner.

Definitely an undiscovered gem off the beaten path, and well worth the effort to get there. Ignore Google Maps or it will route you way around, to end up at the endless stairs from hell. Rather, just follow Allende west past Crespo, to the end, and then walk up along the Panoramica del Fortin until you come to the restaurant on the right. The street is currently undergoing repair, but there's almost no traffic and it's a casual walk during the day.The view over the entire city from the restaurant is pretty impressive day or night. Plan on a taxi at night as the streets are quite dark. There is a small shady outside table space and large windows inside that make it feel like you're dining on top of the world. It's a very nice space in which to relax and linger. The restaurant design and decoration are very attractive and service is attentive. The Spanish chef, visible actively working and directing staff in the open kitchen, prepared really memorable dishes and came to our table to ask how we liked them. He really cares. The shrimp plato fuerte was very special and the separate shrimp heads added a lot of flavor to the delectable sauce. Prices are fair for the high quality ingredients and the originality of the preparation, lower than at trendier places closer to the Centro. We are taking friends there this weekend for the Raices Son Jarocho performance. There's a cultural events space on the second floor: check Que Pasa Oaxaca online and Lila Downs Facebook page for announcements of periodic performances.

This restaurant and music space is owned by Grammy award winning artist, Lila Downs. Though it’s up the hill, it’s a short walk or quick taxi ride away. A variety of artists perform weekly on the stage upstairs. Many of the bands and singers are Oaxacan. The upstairs space has a modern cabaret feel backed by a bar and gives of the city. Table service is available for drinks and food during the shows. If you’re lucky you might even get a performance from Lila. She often joins groups on stage for a song when she’s there. Downstairs is a large dining room and small outdoor patio. The architecture and interior design is impressive. They serve traditional Oaxacan dishes including mole and tlayudas. The bar serves cocktails, mezcal, beer, and wine.

This was our first time here and definitely won’t be our last. The environment and service is great, the food and drinks were excellent. The music was the cherry on top. I had the octopus and my husband the shrimp plate and they were both very flavorful. We had the opportunity to see Silvia Maria sing and she was great. On our way out we got to see Lila Downs and say hi. This was such an amazing experience from beginning to end. Highly recommend!

Very beautiful place, and very delicious food. We had a party of 6 and the restaurant impressed all of us. What really stood out to us was how someone in our group was sick (from a prior place) and they helped us make sure she was ok. They were very attentive even when they didn't have to be. I really would recommend this place for their excellent service.
